New Integration Partner: Synbiotix

Our hot summer for APIs continues - Erudus are excited to announce Synbiotix as our newest Integration Partner.

A comprehensive healthcare technology platform, Synbiotix delivers solutions to some of the largest and most respected healthcare organisations in the world, including NHS Bristol and NHS Glasgow & Clyde.

“Our mission is to bring innovative IT solutions to the Healthcare environment” explains Mark Edell, Projects Director at Synbiotix. And Erudus data makes the perfect starting point for the services the company provide to their customers. “Synbiotix is a single solution facilities management platform covering Catering, Portering and domestic services.”

Here’s everything you need to know about our new partnership with Synbiotix…

Synbiotix see Erudus’s data pool as integral to some of their upcoming plans

Marks says: “What made us want to integrate with Erudus? The vision of a single source of supplier data for building catering management systems in the NHS. It’s a huge challenge currently to consolidate data sources and formats in order to build a reliable and up to date catering management system.”

API updates are key

Marks says: “We are particularly interested in Erudus’s supplier data feeds and API updates to live system.”

Erudus data will reach hospitals via Synbiotix’s MyDietetix system

Marks says: “The Erudus platform will be linked to the [Synbiotix] MyDietetix nutritional analysis system. The system takes supplier information and uses recipes and menus to calculate available nutrition to patients in hospitals. The system is also used as the allergen data source for all hospitals we work with supplying patients and visitors with up to date and reliable allergen data allowing them to make informed meal choices.”

The partnership will reduce the burden on Catering departments

Marks says: “[Having] one data platform for all suppliers means that any one client does not have to approach the suppliers to get data. The format of the data is often PDF or excel and any updates to the system take ages to manage. I am hoping that having one platform for all suppliers makes setting up the system easy, and reduces the burden on the catering department to maintain the platform.”

Natasha’s Law is a factor...

Marks says: “As we approach the October deadline for being compliant with Natasha’s Law, health boards and Trusts up and down the country are getting in touch with the same suppliers to provide up to date data in order that they can then update allergen folders in hospital kitchens and ward pantries. It makes no sense to have all the trust approaching each supplier separately and getting the same data. The NHS should standardise this process and have a single repository for any supplier who wants to work in NHS catering. That supplier will be mandated to supply the data to a single platform and any Trust or Health Board can then call down this data in an agreed and usable format.”

Synbiotix see the integration as a way to eliminate data errors

Marks says: “Sites are still getting data in PDF format from some suppliers and manually translating this into tick box allergen charts. This is a huge risk and prone to error. I have had to code menus on paediatrics wards, and you know with the best will in the world that there will be a mistake in the data. I don’t ever want to be the guy who makes that mistake. Systems to system data transfer must be the future.”

Erudus are thrilled to be working with Synbiotix

Erudus COO Jon Shayler says: “Synbiotix is a fantastic fit for Erudus, a forward thinking company who work with some of the UK’s biggest healthcare organisations - a sector which will benefit greatly from access to our Data Pool. Like us, Synbiotix pride themselves on technological advances and innovative software, and the sort of difference a partnership like this can make reinforces our commitment to ensuring accurate allergen and nutritional information is easily accessible to those who most need to see it. We welcome Synbiotix to Erudus, and look forward to seeing the rewards of this integration.”
