Validations

Per Serving Nutrition amended for Rounding and Tolerances

Per serving nutrition validation has been loosened to allow for the rounding and tolerances permitted under food labelling rules - so values taken directly from a correctly labelled pack are accepted. This applies to both as sold and as prepared values.

Allergen Exemption Phrases containing Punctuation

Previously, ingredient phrases held on the allergen exemption list were never matched when they contained punctuation such as an ampersand or a hyphen - so a declaration such as “King Prawn Cocktail & Marie Rose Seasoning” still raised a Crustacea error and blocked publication. Punctuation and capitalisation are now disregarded when these phrases are compared, so legitimate declarations pass while genuine allergen declarations continue to be flagged.

New Attributes

Free Sugars A Free Sugars per 100g/ml field has been added to the Supplementary Nutritional Information section, directly beneath Fibre Type.

It is optional, recorded in grams, cannot exceed the declared “Sugars” value and appears on every specification type except Non Food, Disposables and Chemicals.

Fish & Seafood Species (previously Fish Species)

The Fish Species attribute has been renamed “Fish & Seafood Species”, and its list expanded well beyond finfish to cover prawns, lobsters, crabs, crayfish, mussels, oysters, scallops, clams, whelks, squid, octopus and more. Every entry now follows a consistent “Common name - Latin name” format.
