Tips & Tricks: Text Errors

Manufacturers, this one’s for you…. Have you struggled with validation errors before when saving ingredients declarations?Fear not, we’re here to help.

Validation errors are also known as text errors, and you can avoid them by ensuring you’re using brackets and colons correctly when grouping ingredients in Erudus ingredients declarations.

You can use either brackets or colons to group ingredients – whichever suits you, but there must be an equal amount of open and closed brackets in order to be processed correctly by the Erudus validation engine.

If you’re using colons, think of the colon as an open bracket, and the full stop as a closed bracket. Here is what your ingredients should look like.

Stabilisers (Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum), Colours (E104, E131)

Stabilisers: Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum. Colours: E104, E131.

Failure to group ingredients correctly – such as doing this… Stabilisers: Xantham Gum, Guar Gum, Colours: E104, E131 – will result in a text error validation.

You can also use brackets within brackets to further segment ingredients and highlight allergens, but for every bracket you use, you must close it to avoid text errors. One open bracket = one closed bracket. Simple.
