New Feature: Quality Checks

Erudus News for Manufacturers

We are introducing "Quality Checks” to the Erudus Product Editor, for Manufacturers to increase data integrity and stop common issues with data in the Erudus Data Pool occurring.

Who are the Quality Checks for?

Primarily, this feature is for Manufacturers who input, update, and manage their product specifications on Erudus.

However, Wholesalers, Caterers, and Retailers will also benefit - while they won't see the alerts directly, these users will reap the rewards of an even higher standard of data accuracy across the Erudus Data Pool.

So, what exactly is the "Quality Checks" feature and how does it work?

This is a smart, proactive data-integrity tool built into the Erudus system. It works by flagging a “Quality Check” notice when a Manufacturer enters data that looks anomalous or has a high probability of being an error. This notice can be dismissed if the data is in fact correct.

How are the Quality Checks different to Validations?

These Quality Checks are different to validations as their presence doesn’t prevent you from publishing the specification. They are more like a sense check to prompt Manufacturers to double check what they have entered is correct before they publish.

Put simply:

Validations are rigid "hard stops." They completely prevent a user from publishing a specification until an error is fixed.

Quality Checks are "soft nudges." They prompt Manufacturers to double-check their work in case of a potential error, but they will not block the Manufacturer from publishing the spec if the data is intentionally unusual but correct.

What attributes are being checked in the Quality Checks?

The Quality Checks feature has been launched to ensure the correct declaration of gluten concentration in products that have Cereals containing Gluten present.

Some examples of quality checks being introduced at launch include:

  • Product contains the ingredient “Wheat Flour” but the gluten concentration for wheat has been declared at <20ppm in the allergen declaration
  • Product name contains the words “gluten free” but the gluten concentration of the product has not been declared as <20ppm in the allergen declarations

While the feature is launching with the focus on gluten concentration being correctly declared, there will be more and attributes receiving the quality check treatment over time - based on the trends our Technical Managers identify for product errors being raised.

When will the Quality Checks feature be rolled out?

It’s already happened! Quality Checks are already in play on Erudus.

Where will users see, or be able to access the Quality Checks feature?

Users will encounter the Quality Checks directly within the Erudus Product Editor during the specification creation or update process. The notification will pop up contextually right where the potential error is flagged.

Why are we introducing Quality Checks?

There are a couple of reasons we have introduced this new feature:

  • To Protect Data Integrity Without Restricting Freedom: We want the Erudus database to be error-free, but we also understand products sometimes have non-standard data that our rigid validation rules would reject.
  • To Catch Mistakes Early: This feature acts as a safety net that identifies simple human errors before the specification goes live to the wider industry, saving time on retrospective fixes.
