Best Food and Drinks For Keeping Hydrated
Poor nutrition and hydration can harm health and wellbeing, and lead to increased hospital admissions and longer stays.
That’s why every March the world celebrates Nutrition and Hydration Week, a social movement aiming to educate and highlight food and drink’s role in maintaining health and wellbeing, through a range of food activities and initiatives.
Our bodies are approximately 60% water, so it makes sense that it’s important we keep our bodies hydrated, and with roughly 20% of our daily H20 intake coming from solid foods it’s also important to nourish your body with the correct foods – especially fruits and vegetables.
Drinking the recommended 1.5 litres of water per day will ensure your body flushes out nasty toxins whilst maintaining heart and brain health, and transport nutrients to cells to keep the body healthy.
Drinking water is the easy part, but what’s the best way to eat it?
We decided to put our own Erudus spin on Nutrition and Hydration Week by rounding up the best hydrating foods and drinks on our platform for you to incorporate into your own plans…
Supper Time Snacks
Snacks, or mini-meals can be great for bridging the gap between an evening meal and breakfast the next morning. In the colder months, for those struggling with their nutrition a mug of soup or crumpets make for a comforting evening snack whilst providing an array of nutrients and energy.
The Redemption Food Co Chicken, Tomato and Olive Soup offers a deliciously rich taste of the Mediterranean, and is packed with veggies, with a protein hit coming from the chicken.
Talking Tea Parties
On the Wednesday of National Hydration Week, participating organisations are invited to hold tea parties.
Tea is a great – and relaxing – way to up your hydration levels, and we have hundreds of delicious teas on Erudus, with the selection from Taylors of Harrogate a brilliant choice for your tea party. Blackberry, Green Tea & Jasmine and even Lapsang Souchong… there’s something for everyone.
Fabulous Fruits
High in fibre, vitamins and minerals as well as helping you hydrate and acting as an anti-inflammatory… fruit is a true food hero.
To give your daily hit that extra bit of excitement why not make a little fruit medley and pair with some Golden Acre Plain Yoghurt, drizzle with some honey and add a bit of granola or some mixed seeds.
Simply Smoothies
Smoothies are great because you can customize them to suit you dietary requirements. They offer nutrients, fluid and energy in an easy to consume form, and they can be prepared and stored in advance. We have a great range of smoothies on Erudus, such as Love Taste Co’s Breakfast Smoothie which contains oats, flaxseed, raspberry, blueberry and banana, and there’s also a whole range of flavours from Frobishers, Innocent and Sweetbird Smoothies.
Hey Sundae
What’s better than a sweet treat on a Sunday? We love a banana split served with Yorvale’s Coconut & Vanilla Pod Dairy Free Ice Cream.
You can find all these fabulous foods for keeping your customers hydrated and happy on the Erudus platform.
