New Specification Type : Chemicals

Back at the beginning of last year we made some major upgrades and changes to the Erudus platform, and since then we haven’t stopped! We have continued to add new features, fixes and attributes, many that have come as a direct result of user feedback. Our latest new addition is a much anticipated new Specification Type - Chemicals.
Chemicals and the information that needs to be communicated regarding them are governed by legislation - which up till this point was admittedly not an area of our expertise, given our platform’s focus on food and drink. But our dedicated team have now had a chance to thoroughly review and educate themselves on chemical legislation and can ensure that the dataset we have for chemicals is compliant and we understand the attributes in the chemicals specification type, so we can advise our customers correctly. Now here’s everything you need to know...
How does the Chemical Specification Type work?
Like with other Specification Types, when creating an Erudus product specification for a chemical product you simply select ‘Chemical’ from the list of specification categories. Consequently, the Product Editor will only display attributes for completion that are relevant to chemical products, and it will also only present chemicals specific attributes for completion.

Why are we introducing Chemicals as a Specification Type?
Many of our Wholesalers customers sell chemical products like dish soap and detergent (in addition to food and drinks) to their Caterer customers, and legal compliance demands they have COSHH and/or Safety Data Sheets for these products. Since we strive to make life as easy as possible for our customers, chemicals have long been on our radar.
By introducing the Chemicals Specification Type to Erudus, we are not only expanding our non-food data offering within the Data Pool, and reducing the need for multiple data sources for our customers, we are also making available critical safety information related to chemical products used in the foodservice industry to the entire supply chain.
How will this benefit our users?
Manufacturers, Wholesalers and Caterers will all benefit from this new Specification Type being introduced because, just as with our food and drink data, centralising all of the legally required information for chemicals and making it available to the industry without friction, will drive efficiency and allow all of our users to spend time focusing on their businesses, without needing to spend time responding to multiple individual requests for this critical data.
Safety Data and COSHH sheets
When creating a chemicals specification, Manufacturers will have the ability to upload a document against their specification, as they have always done. On a chemical product specification they will also be able to declare what type of document it is - either a Safety Data Sheet or COSHH sheet. The inclusion of either a COSHH sheet or Safety Data Sheet is mandatory for these types of products.

When will Chemicals as a Product Specification Type go live?
The chemical specification type is live now, and can be selected by users.
