Erudus is Cyber Essentials Certified

You might have noticed in our September Release Notes that we announced the addition of a Cyber Essentials badge to the website footer at erudus.com, to inform and reassure visitors that Erudus is Cyber Essentials accredited. But what does that actually mean? Here’s your cheat sheet…
What is Cyber Essentials Certified?
Backed by the government and industry, Cyber Essentials is a scheme that helps organisations protect themselves against common online threats. It sets out the standard technical controls businesses should have in place to protect themselves against the most common online security threats, suitable for all organisations, of any size, in any sector.
The scheme was launched with backing from the Federation of Small Businesses amongst others, and according to the government’s website on the scheme 92% fewer insurance claims are made by those with the Cyber Essentials controls in place.

Since then, over 215,000 Cyber Essentials certificates have been awarded to businesses, charities, schools, universities, local authorities, and of course, Erudus.
Why did Erudus get Cyber Essentials Certified?
If you are a business with digital assets or store any data, putting the Cyber Essentials controls in place can help you keep it safe, so getting certified with a no brainer for Erudus.
As an organisation we prioritise the security of our customers’ data, and are actively working to strengthen our existing Risk Management strategies.
Already the Erudus team undertakes annual GDPR training to remain up to date with privacy rights in keeping with European Union law, and last spring we took the step of demonstrating our commitment to cyber security protection by becoming Cyber Essentials accredited.
What does being Cyber Essentials Certified mean for Erudus?
As well as demonstrating Erudus’s commitment to cyber security to our customers and users, we believe that the certification will help us be more trusted, more resilient and more competitive.
According to the Cyber Essentials website:
- 89% of organisations would recommend certifying to other organisations like theirs
- 69% of those with Cyber Essentials believe that it has increased their market competitiveness
- 88% believe Cyber Essentials has improved their understanding of cyber security risks
- A Cyber Essentials certificate increases cyber security across supply chains and gives organisations confidence in the cyber security of their suppliers.
Additionally, holding an up to date Cyber Essentials certificate enables your business to bid for government contracts where handling of financial or personal data is involved.
