Infections pass 250 in UK E. coli outbreak

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), Public Health Scotland, and Public Health Wales are investigating a rise in E. coli infections, with Food Safety News reporting on an outbreak linked to salad leaves that has so far left up to 250 people sick. Shopkeeper fined after selling chilled food which was up to 17 days out of date

Use by dates are hugely important when it comes to food safety, for consumers and suppliers alike. And as the Yorkshire Post explains, there can be real consequences for the latter when rules are not followed - with a shopkeeper ordered by a court to pay over £2,000 after dozens of chilled food items in his shop, including meats, were found to be past their use by date.
