Updates to the Recipe Builder tool

Natasha’s Law is coming into play in little over a year’s time and in the FSA’s recent industry consultation we began to get a clearer idea of who this will affect and how and you can find out more about that here.

We await for further details to be published, but once consultation is concluded what we do know is it’s likely to be billed as the biggest allergen legislation reform of the 21st century, so it’s important that we all start getting prepared.

It’s a potentially daunting task for Caterers in particular, and so we’re already thinking of ways to help. How? Let us give you a sneak peek of the changes and additions we’re working to make to our Recipe Builder tool –  created specifically to display and manage allergen information more effectively…

PPDS Label

Recipe Builder in Erudus

Going forward, all Caterers producing pre-packaged food for direct sale (PPDS) will need an ingredients declaration label on all qualifying products.

With our new changes, once you’ve created a recipe in our Recipe Builder, you’ll be able to automatically generate a rolled-up ingredient declaration in QUID (Quantitative Ingredient Declaration) format, which you can then copy straight to your preferred label printing software.

Allergen Matrix

Erudus Allergen Matrix

This new feature will allow you to create an Allergen Matrix across your entire menu to show at a glance which, if any, of the 14 Major Allergens are present in the recipe. This includes options to customise possible cross-contamination risks.

Next steps

Work on these features is nearly complete, and you can expect to use them soon.

But we’re not stopping there – we already have further plans for Recipe Builder to add visibility of sub-derivatives when a recipe contains any allergen ingredients for both tree nut and cereals containing gluten. And of course we’ll be keeping our eye on the consultation to monitor any new developments, with the aim of creating solutions for the challenges Caterers are likely to face.

Because we like to make the lives of our Catering customers easier.
